How much does SEO cost in the UK?

SEO with us costs from £500 a month, in four bands that run up to £10,000 and above. The band depends on how much work your site and your market need, not on a package. All prices are monthly and exclude VAT.

What it costs

Priced by the work, in plain numbers.

Most clients work with us on a flexible retainer: one monthly fee for ongoing work across search, your website and your brand, which shifts as your priorities do. Research leads every project, and if something obvious needs fixing on day one, we fix it. The band depends on how much there is to do.

What the UK market charges

It helps to know what normal looks like before you talk to anyone, us included. Agencies that publish their prices put a small business somewhere between £1,000 and £1,500 a month to start. Some start lower, at around £300 a month for a basic package. Others start at £3,000 and go well past £10,000 for larger businesses.

What agencies publish Typical monthly range
Small business SEO £1,000 to £1,500
Medium business SEO £1,500 to £4,000
Larger business SEO £4,000 to £8,000 and above
Entry-level packages from about £300
Specialist and enterprise programmes £6,500 to £19,500

So what does that mean for you? A price well under £500 a month buys very little hands-on time, however it is described. A price in the thousands should come with a clear account of the work behind it. If it doesn't, ask.

Ranges taken from UK agencies' own published price guides, October 2026.

What drives the cost of SEO

No two businesses need the same amount of work, which is why we price by the work rather than by a fixed package. Five things decide most of it.

  1. How much needs fixing first

A site with broken pages, slow loading or muddled structure needs repair before anything else will stick. A healthy site can move straight to growth.

  2. How competitive your market is

Being found for “accountant in Aylesbury” is a different job from being found for “B2B SEO agency” across the UK. The more established the businesses you're up against, the more work it takes to earn a place beside them.

  3. How many things you want to be found for

One service in one town is a narrow job. Several services, several sectors or several places means more pages, more research and more upkeep.

  4. How much new content is needed

Most of the cost of SEO is people writing, building and improving pages that answer what your buyers actually search for. More pages, more work.

  5. How fast you want to move

You can go steadily or you can go hard. Going hard means more work each month, and it costs more.

Retainer, project or hourly: how SEO is priced

You'll see three ways of paying for SEO. Each suits a different job.

A flexible retainer

One monthly fee for ongoing work. It's how most of our clients work with us, because SEO compounds: the work you do this month makes next month's work count for more. The retainer flexes with you. If a product launch, a new location or a quiet season changes what matters, the work changes with it, and the fee covers whatever is most useful that month. We ask for a minimum of six months, because that's the time it takes to fully prove our value to your business.

A one-off project

Suits a defined job with an end: an SEO audit, moving a site without losing its rankings, or a new website built to be found from day one. You know the price before we start.

Hourly work

Common with freelancers. We don't sell SEO by the hour, because hours measure effort, not outcomes, and you end up paying for time rather than progress.

What each band includes

Every band runs on the same method, OSOF: research first, then a strategy, then the work, then a review of what it achieved. What changes from band to band is how much of it we do each month.

  • Foundations

    From £500 a month

Research into your market, your buyers and the searches that matter. Your site's technical health checked, fixed and watched. Your Google Business Profile kept accurate and active. Your most important pages improved for the searches your buyers make. Enquiry tracking set up, so you know where leads come from. A monthly report, and a review every quarter.

  • Core

    £1,000 to £3,000 a month

Everything in Foundations, plus a full written strategy for your business. New and improved pages written and built each month for the searches that bring buyers. Content that answers the questions people ask before they buy. Reviews and local presence looked after. Links earned from relevant, reputable sites. A State of the Union review each quarter: what worked, what didn't, and what we're changing.

  • Partner

    £3,000 to £10,000 a month

Everything in Core, with search, your website and your brand run together as one programme. Design and development time every month, so changes to your site happen without a separate project. Work on how your site turns visitors into enquiries. Digital PR to earn coverage and links. Full attribution, so every lead is traced to where it came from. A monthly call with the people doing the work.

  • Embedded

    £10,000+ a month

Everything in Partner, run alongside your own team as part of it. Several workstreams moving at once: new markets, product catalogues, content pipelines, and the systems that sit behind your site. Regular working sessions with your people. Strategy that looks past search to how your business grows online.

Which band fits your business?

Tell us where you are and what you want more of. We'll tell you which band fits, and if a smaller one would do the job, we'll say so.

How long before you see results

Some fixes show quickly: a broken page repaired, a missing service page added, a Business Profile corrected. The bigger shifts depend on your market, your competition and how much goes in each month, so we won't put a date on them. Once the work is running, things can move fast. We just don't promise it, and you should be wary of anyone who does.

What we do commit to is six months to prove our value to your business, and an honest account of the work every month: what we did, what moved, and what we're doing next.

How to spot cheap SEO that costs more later

Low prices aren't always bad value, and high prices aren't always good. But some signs are worth checking before you sign anything.

  1. Guaranteed rankings.

Nobody controls Google. A guarantee usually means the agency has picked searches nobody makes, so they're easy to win.

  2. Link packages.

“500 backlinks for £99” means links from sites built to sell links. They can do real harm to a site's standing.

  3. No research before the work starts.

If an agency can tell you what to do before it has looked at your market, your buyers and your competitors, it's selling a template.

  4. No reporting you can follow.

You should be able to see, in plain language, what was done each month and what changed because of it.

  5. Long contracts with no review points.

A minimum term is reasonable. A long contract with no point to stop and judge the results isn't.

Questions people ask about SEO pricing

Is SEO worth it for a small business?

It is when your buyers search for what you sell and you can serve the work it brings in. If very few people search for your service, other channels may serve you better, and we'll say so on the first call.

Is there a minimum term?

Six months. That's the time it takes to fully prove our value to your business.

Can I change band later?

Yes. Most clients start in one band and move as their priorities change, up or down.

Is VAT included?

No. All prices exclude VAT.

Do you guarantee rankings?

No. Nobody can, and anyone who does is promising something they don't control. We guarantee the work and an honest account of what it achieves.

Is AI search extra?

No. It's included in every band, because it comes from the same work.

What happens on the first call?

We ask about your business, your buyers and what you want more of, and we tell you plainly whether we think SEO is the right investment and which band would fit. Thirty minutes, no pitch deck.

How does the free SEO audit work?

You tell us your website, and we look at how visible it is in search and in AI answers, what's holding it back, and what we'd fix first. You get it back as a short report you can act on, with us or without us.

Do you only work with businesses near Aylesbury?

No. We're based in Buckinghamshire and work with businesses across the UK and beyond.
